Hi there! My name's Nicholas Garbaty and while my profession is video journalism, I think of myself as

an idea translator and a team player.

What does that mean? Well, through my education and career as a journalist, I've become adept at researching and working alongside others in a way that acknowledges context, pinpoints significance and preserves intent. Whether I'm focused on my personal duties or coordinating with a team,

I ensure ideas transition smoothly from one source to another while retaining and appreciating their meaning and nuance.

As a video producer I’ve held roles in every part of the production process, from research, to interviewing, to filming, to editing, to animation and color grading and beyond. I’ve worked for big names like Vox, TEGNA, NPR, Quartz, AJ+ and National Geographic, and through it all I became proficient in creating engaging visual stories, being dynamic and intentional in my work, and knowing what it takes to build a project from scratch and turn it into a full-blown production, even while under the constraints of budget, deadline and limited resources. These experiences have informed my vocation, and so

My career mission is to provide my audience with the full picture of the people, things and events that shape their lives.

On a personal note, I’m a huge nerd. I’m often in the audience on Twitch, I’m a Marvel and DC Comics fanboy and I love playing games (catch me playing Magic: The Gathering or Final Fantasy XIV). I also stay on top of pop culture trends, whether that’s the latest show, up-and-coming music artist or viral meme.

Whether at a media organization or production company, I’m an incomparable asset and pillar to the production and editorial workflow.
